Childhood Fears, Anxiety, and Phobias can Stressful and Painful

As a child grows, he learns a lot from his environment and from watching and imitating his parents. He develops concepts and explores everything that is around him and develops his tastes, his likes, dislikes and things that he fears.
There are a whole lot of things that children are scared of and parents sometimes have difficulty comprehending and dealing with them. Normal things might cause a fear in children like taking a bath, sleeping alone or in the dark and many others and it is up to the parents to handle these childhood fears correctly. Handling childhood fears in the wrong way may lead to adulthood phobias.
The following is a simple guide on how to handle your child’s fear correctly:
- Do not be tensed by your child’s fears. Stay calm and remain in control. Explain to him in a simple way that there is no need to be afraid.
- Encourage your child to talk about his fears so that you will know how to handle it properly. Do not laugh at his fear, no matter how trivial and simple it is to you.
- Do not ignore your child’s fear for it might turn into phobia and will be more difficult to deal with later.
- If your child is scared of the dark, turn a night light on. Do not encourage him to sleep beside you.
- Do not let your children watch horror and violent films because it will have a great impact on them.
- Make sure your child is not too stressed. Sometimes, unnecessary fears can be provoked by stress. A stressed-out mind may be too weak to face minor problems.
- Do not expect too much from your child as this might bog him down. Support him in any way that you can.
- Help raise his self-esteem so that he does not end up feeling that he is not worth because he is scared.
- Encourage good friendships, as friends are the ones who keep your child playful and happy.
- Do not ignore fears because they could hinder your child’s social life and affect his self-esteem. Check with a doctor if you think your child needs help.
